Life Jackets

We have been really lucky to have some time in the school pool learning how to use life jackets - how to jump in, float on our back and huddle together in a group.

A big thank you to Miss McLeod for organising this for us!

The Waterfall

We have been learning how to capture a "moment in time" with our writing. We try to imagine we are describing something we can see out of the window to someone who can't see it.

Here is a great piece of writing from Cole about a waterfall.

As the water runs down the waterfall birds chirp and the water splashes onto the stream and the rocks laying there for tourists to jump over one by one. As the water falls down the miniature cliff it turns white in mid air then turns transparent again as it hits the water and the is grass as green as a pool of acid.

I can smell the fresh air going through my nostrils and the old leaves that smell like cinnamon fresh from the store. I can also smell the moss growing on the elderly rocks and the large stones catching dust.

I can feel the soft green grass on my knees as I bend down to feel the water. It's cold. I feel calm as I stare at the miniature waterfall and listen to the wind pushing the leaves around and the birds chirping at the same time.

Writing

With Term one now into full swing, we are pretty much back into our normal programme. Here are some super snapshots of some children's writing from Miss McLeod's writing group.

Enjoy reading!

The rugby players wait like a jaguar, waiting for the right time as the the ball speeds through the air, their arms reach high like a mountain into the blue sky.The players are reaching for the ball with persistence. As the ball gets snatch by the player in red the crowds roars with excitement. The teams channels their speed to go their fastest. As the red team charges to the goal the blue team catches up and right onto their tails.

The rugby players position themselves as the ball comes hurtling towards them. The Red team catches the ball and there he goes running through the squishy mud with the ball in his hands. "oww" the crowd goes as he’s tackled straight to the ground he passes the ball as he goes down.

As the dew on the wet tree leaves drips on to the sweaty players heads, mud from the damp morning grass splatters up their tired legs.

They can hear the cheering crowds voices echoing into the mysterious dark forest  and their yelling coachs deep voice. When they hear the mud squelch the players can hear them selves continuously puff because they are running up and down the damp playing field.

As the red team runs to their goal one of the players from the blue team tackles the player from the red team…

Now the blue team has the ball and they are heading towards the goal, he sees he is about to get tackled so he trows the ball and the red team tries to block

Welcome to 2020

We have been at school for 5 days now!

We are a fabulous bunch of Year 5 and Year 6 students and we have had a great start to the 2020 school year.  We are enjoying getting to know our new teachers - Miss McLeod, Mrs Jones and Miss McClelland - and all of our new class mates.

So far, we have enjoyed swimming and going out for fitness.  We are trying to get some work up on our walls and make our space our own.

We have constructed a Class Treaty and signed it by adding a bow to the tail of the tukutuku.

We have started working on our chromebooks - we have done some writing, a scavenger hunt, some testing and some of us have done our first blog post.
